I have never seen an opportunist journalist like Tamirat. He does not write for the poor nor he holds the government accountable at least for few, if not many, misdeeds this government commits. Look, he did not write a single line about the demonstration held in Bahirdar against Alamnew. I salute Awrambatimes and the reporter on this matter

Abegaz, ewnetim astesasebih hulu abegaz new. This guy has hisown style of journalism, you want him to be like that talkative Temesgen Desalegn? The guy is well informed and matured jiurnalust. He is asking the govt. Officials taugh questions in peoper way unlike the fiction writer of yours Temesgen Desalegn.

I don’t understand why you guys are rediculing people like Tamrat. Of course he can write without any restriction if the story
is true and you will be questioned if it is defamation. I have seen you guys whenever this kind of event is organized you want to divert or disrupt like this Moron philisophy Dr Dagnachew did because they don’t have substance. Get a life man.

  2. Kfasil says:

Mr. Fortune, I reapeatedly listen to learn at least something out of it.

For me it was totally distorted, confused, antagonistic and fearful analyses of journalism. Just trying like “Putting lipistic on a pig”
I hope you went back and listen carefully what you wanted spray to Ethiopian public.

This guy … has very little knowledge and yet he tries his utmost best to compensate it by inserting jargon in every sentence.

He mentioned that the current Ethiopian constitution grants power to the “Ethiopian peoples and citizens.” He used this to show how the constitution respects individual rights without any restriction. This is the most stupid example because the constitution grants power not to citizens/individuals but to the “Nations, Nationalities and Peoples” which are groups.

The guy is simply stating his misunderstanding/ confusion. What does EPRDF want? Taking a few events and Jabing a system that has existed for 200 plus years won’t justify EPRDF. The system give and take works for its people. It rather shows the extent of the pervasivness of the culture of red psychopolitcs in EPRDF. Red psychopolitics is about creating a desired contradiction, a mental desonance to come out with the relief giving victor at the end. I here the tempo in aboy sibehat and the young dude in yellow. The methodology may be good in a liberation struggle but has absolutely no place in a production environment where clarity of purpose is of the utmost importance. I personally don’t disagre with the larger concept of developmental journalism but I highly doubt if EPRDF, as it stands is the one to bring it. It doesn’t even have the right mental template. Then there is the issue of corruption both structurally and culturally and has afflicted eprdf top to bottom. Absolute power corrupts absolutely so on and on and on.

It acts as a temp. but talks of a hefty permanence. What does EPRDF want?

  6. Alula says:

Why don’t you focus of how to win over poverty first? What is the use of freedom of press when there are a lot concern more than freedom of press? It’s just for trouble making! Journalism are the most destructive profession on our planet! Remember how the first & second world wars started….! We have a lot to do than the press freedom !

    • korem says:

      at alula
Would you please return this name to the owner?!! That great man, the owner of this name never ever thought in those dark days like u think today!!!

    • Ajire says:

OMG, i never thought that such a thinking would exist in this century. Oh Gott!
You could as well say why do we need to speak, read and write at all? Kkkkk

  7. Jhonny says:

It is ridiculous to see such coments against Tamrat. He has his audience, that is why he is staying in the business. This Shimagle diaspora PALTALK fighters are attacking him because he didn’t choose their path

  9. Abegaz says:

    Mekdes.

Let us start from the obvious. Did Tamrat report the 70,000-man gathering in Bahir dar to denounce Alemnew? No. This was a big event. Tamrat writes only about the rich. He never wrote when the poor were evicted to give their land to for condominium construction where the rich possess it. Rich or poor, man is man. Why would I get removed to give my land to Alamudi or another rich man? If he want, he can come to me and make a deal. Even under the imperial Ethiopia, you can only lose your land for public purpose: school, road, government offices. And in this situation you get replacement land and huge compensation in central locations, not Akaki or Debrezeyit. Tamrat never wrote when the poor were evicted from their ancestral land. What makes you Ethiopian is because you are born and grown there. Same thing when it comes to your mender and property. Got it Mekdes??

  10. Abegaz says:

Awrambatimes, Why do you delete my response to Mekdes? I still believe in what you try to balance. I have not broken any rules.

I criticized fortune magazine writer for failing to do his duty. He never mentioned the demonstration in Bahirdar which Awrambatimes reported. Tamrat is pro-rich. He is entitled to be so. But he cannot ignore truth. Many people from Merkato, Aratilo, sengatera are evicted from their homes only to loose their land to the rich in the name of investment. This is not fair. Investors should make a deal with owners and owners must not lose their property to the rich. This never happened even under imperial Ethiopia. In imperial Ethiopia, you get evicted with replacement land in a similar location, and with good compensation (better than market price). You get evicted only for public purposes: schools, roads, government offices, etc. Tamrat never writes about the poor. What is so inhuman worse than confiscating the poor and giving it to the rich?

    • Mekdes says:

      Abegaz,

I don’t know how and where you got that figure ,70,000 demonstrators in Bahir Dar. What I saw was a few hundred people who were dancing on the street. That is their right to be on the street, they were given by the constitution. But you can not blame Tamrat for not reporting that. Alemneh was saying that we have to be clean of downing other tribes. The guy was blamed for chauvinist outlook of ours. To be honest I don’t blame those few hundred young kids who were enjoying Eskista, where as, I blame Andnet party for calling the demonstration by getting the information by ESAT. For your information, in the best interest of the peple, if the govt. Think that will give nenifit for the community, in the place we live in America there is a prigram called iminent domain so it can give for investers.

  11. Tn. says:

A good piece by Habtamu Alebachew on the difference between the two apperared on aigaforum a few days ago. As different as the target markets and the approaches of the two are, I don’t see any reason why they both can co-exist. Of course as with every tool there is the possibility of misuse or abuse. In any case, I like to thank Habtamu for an article that respects his readers.

I think part of the confusion comes from not realizing that there is a third component not included in the two categories that reverberates around the ethos/ political groupings, journalism that still holds that Ethiopian constitution doesn’t have a national consensus. We don’t hear that coming from any region in the south, from Tigray afar but is a voice that comes from the center and perhaps a dwindling voice in Amhara. Does it have to go to a vote? In The country I live even parties that are considered a 3rd party (green party, tea part libriterian party) don’t have a problem with the constitution. I doub’t even the communist or neo-Nazi groups go to the extent of opting to redraw the state lines. In any case, I would not call these far, far reaching
groups and their gathering a liberal media. Anywhere else, Liberal media is not out to re write the state. There simply has to be a new
name created for them. Considering growing pains, I think thengovrnment is just as much to blame for considering that they have just been given as much voice as a primary party and, just as in the case of the nazi party of germany, a chance to capitalize on the protest voice if and/when EPRDF faulted in performance.

  12. billfree says:

Tamirat and ledetu are an opportunist individuals who are supporting this dictator regime using the name of independent journalism and opposition respectively. We have to fight such kinds of persons before eprdf.
