Why is Ethiopian still flying to Ebola infested destinations (+Video)
Awramba Times (Addis Ababa) -Ebola virus disease, one of the world’s most virulent diseases with a case fatality rate of up to 90%, has killed more than 961 people in west African nations since current outbreak emerged.
British Airways, Korean Air and Kenyan Airways have so far suspended their flights to West Africa. Ivory Coast on Monday restricted flights from Ebola-infected countries, underscoring fears of the virus spreading globally by air travel while Ethiopian Airlines still flying to those destinations.
A senior Ethiopian airline official whom Awramba Times spoke to said that a national committee is setup to put in place a plan how to prevent and contain any possible outbreak of the world’s deadly disease. However, due to the seriousness the disease, Ethiopians call on their airline to temporarily suspend flights to these infested destinations.
According to the World Health Organization, the infection is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people.
