President Obama sends high-ranking government delegation headed by USAID Chief Gayle Smith to African Union summit
Awramba Times (Addis Ababa)- US President Barack Obama has sent a high-level delegation to the 26th Annual African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
A press statement sent to Awramba Times by the Agency for International Development (USAID) press office on Thursday said USAID Administrator Gayle Smith will lead a team of at least eight US senior government officials to the summit, including Department of State Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski, National Security Council Senior Director for Africa Cathy Byrne and U.S. Special Envoy for Sudan& South Sudan Donald Booth.
“Following the AU Summit, Administrator Smith will visit sites in Ethiopia where the U.S. government is working with local and international partners to respond to the drought and build resilience to extreme weather events like El Nino. ” the statement said.
