Human Rights Watch and Oakland Institute exposed themselves at the Paris climate conference, says Getachew Reda (Video)
Awramba Times (Adama) – Getachew Reda, minister of Ethiopia’s government Communication affairs office, said that the negative perception of Human Rights Watch and Oakland Institute towards Ethiopia was exposed at the Paris climate conference.
“both organizations once again proved their hidden interest at the COP21 that they don’t want to see any mega project to be undertaken by the government of Ethiopia” Getachew said at a symposium held in Adama on Saturday.
“Fortunately they faced a backlash” He added.
Human Rights Watch previously claimed that there would be radical reductions in inflow to Lake Turkana due to the Gibe 3 dam which was constructed on the Omo River, some 600 kilometres from the lake.
Responding to a question raised by Dawit Kebede, editor of Awramba Times, in August 2010, the late Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi vowed to complete the dam “at any cost”, saying about critics of the dam that “They don’t want to see developed Africa; they want us to remain undeveloped and backward to serve their tourists as a museum”
The Gilgel Gibe III hydroelectric power project has now began power generation Since October 2015.
