OPDO Calls for Immediate Cessation of Protests and Myhem in Oromia; Jailed Opposition Figure Bekelle Gerba Released.
Head of OPDO Secretariat, Abiy Ahmed (PhD), said today that the protests demanding the release of prisoners is untimely since the federal and regional governments have already been releasing prisoners.
According to the news on Fana, citing OBN, Abiy said the looting and destruction of private and public properties in the name of Oromo people is not acceptable. Adding that there have been attacks on other ethnic groups in the region and against security forces.
Dr. Abiy said that forcing people to shutdown their business and blocking roads is improper and shall cease immediately.
Those who were behind these activities will be held accountable, Abiy added.
He also called on Oromia police to enforce the law and restore order, on his statement to OBN.
On the other hand, prominent opposition figure, Bekelle Gerba has been released after two years of incarceration today.
