Ethiopian is 3rd airline to get Dreamliner
USA TODAY – Ethiopian Airlines today will become the third airline in the world – and the first outside Japan – to take delivery of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The airline will get the proverbial keys to the jet around 4.p.m. ET today at a ceremony near Boeing’s Dreamliner production line in Everett, Wash.
On Wednesday, Ethiopian will fly the jet from Everett to Washington Dulles where it will show off the jet in a media ceremony outside Washington, D.C., which has one of the world’s largest Ethiopian populations outside Ethiopia.
Then, on Thursday, Ethiopian will become just the third airline in the world to fly paying passengers on the jet via a special one-time flight between Washington Dulles and the airline’s hub in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
The carrier plans to make the most of its status as one of the world’s first operators of Boeing’s revolutionary new long-range jet. Following the flight to Ethiopia, the airline plans a special VIP flight that will fly around Mount Kilimanjaro with 250 select customers and VIPs onboard.
